Family Files Lawsuit Over Police Shooting

The family of a Florida man shot and killed by police last year has filed a lawsuit claiming he was working as an informant for law enforcement agencies at the time of his death. The lawsuit claims that Arthur Lee Coleman was helping police bust a ring of car thieves around the time he was killed. According to the lawsuit, Coleman was shot and killed while a group of officers were looking for him for allegedly violating probation. The lawsuit also claims that Coleman was unarmed at the time, contrary to police reports.

Man Claims Nasal Spray Ruined His Sense of Smell

A man suffering from anosmia – loss of smell – has filed a lawsuit against the makers of Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Spray, claiming that medicine he used from 2006-2009 is responsible the condition. According to the lawsuit, Paul Buck Jr. says that studies show that using topical applications containing zinc ions “can produce permanent anosmia,” and that the drug maker should have been aware of that fact before marketing their product as “safe.” The lawsuit seeks $75 million in damages.

Car Accident on I-25 in Pueblo, Colorado

An accident on I-25 in Pueblo, Colorado closed the highway for about an hour a little after 6:00 a.m. yesterday. Officers reported there were minor injuries from the car wreck and major debris strewn across the roadway.

Semi Accident in Colorado Springs at Interquest Parkway

There was a semi-truck accident at the end of the morning rush Thursday that blocked Interstate 25 southbound at Interquest Parkway. The interstate was not closed but it was almost completely blocked in the area, with traffic only getting by slowly in the right lane.
One person was injured in the crash, but the extent of the injury is not known at this time.

Damages Awarded to Man Injured by Drunken Driver

A Colorado judge awarded $18.5 million to a man who suffered severe injuries after being hit by a drunk driver while he was working in his driveway. According to the lawsuit, Paul Savage was changing his wife’s car’s oil when Kevin Ruszkowski drove his car off the road and onto Savage’s property, striking him. Savage suffered injuries to his spine and is now a functioning paraplegic, the Denver Post reports. Ruszkowski was driving with a suspended license.

Facebook Exposes Users to Identity Theft, Lawsuit Claims

The social media Web site Facebook has added new privacy protection controls for third party applications, but a class-action lawsuit has been filed claiming those safety precautions do not protect against identity theft. The lawsuit claims that the new features “are difficult to use” and are not “designed to explain how a user can best protect his information and data.” The lawsuit claims that the Web site has tricked users into exposing personal items to get more traffic to the site.

Court Allows Lawsuit Against City Pool to Continue

A federal appeals court in Ohio this week gave the green light to a man’s lawsuit against a Cincinnati community pool. In the lawsuit, Robert Kennedy alleges he was thrown out of the pool without refund because pool staffers claimed he was “creeping out” other patrons. The judge ruled that because he had not broken any rules, Kennedy had a “constitutionally-protected liberty interest to use municipal property” and that refusing him that right was unconstitutional.

Robbery, Shooting at Gas Station Prompts Lawsuit

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in Wisconsin by the family of a woman who was murdered during a gas station robbery in March 2008. According to the lawsuit, Rochelle Anderson was killed by Derek Domke while he and another man attempted to rob the gas station. Domke was convicted of intentional homicide and armed robbery and was sentenced to life in prison in January 2009.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed in Police Shooting

The city of Everett, Wash., was negligent in the death of a 51-year-old man who was shot by a police officer outside a local restaurant in June, a lawsuit filed by family members claims. According to the lawsuit, Niles Meservey was leaving the restaurant in his car, apparently drunk, when he was surrounded by police, blocking him from driving. The lawsuit states that Meservey was tased by an officer, causing his car to lurch forward. When the car moved, Officer Troy Meade allegedly shot Meservey multiple times.

Plane out of Denver diverted due to a bomb threat

United Airlines Flight 741 from Denver to San Francisco has been diverted to Salt Lake City because of a bomb threat. The FAA says the plane and its passengers are being checked in a holding area of the Salt Lake City airport.
