Automaker Mazada has recalled 215,000 vehicles due to a potential loss of power to the steering wheel, which can cause an accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that rust can form on the pipes of the power steering system, causing them to shut down to avoid overheating. The result can be a reduction in “the driver’s ability to steer the vehicle as typically expected.” The affected models are the 2007-2009 Mazda 3 and Mazda 5.

A Maryland man has filed a lawsuit against Best Buy’s Geek Squad after repairs they made to his computer allegedly caused it to shock him. According to the lawsuit, after Geek Squad fixed the man’s computer, it gave him a violent shock when he plugged in his printer. The man claims to have suffered “two injured arms, dislocated shoulders, and a need for physical therapy.” He is seeking $450,000 in damages.

Officers in the Seattle Police Department have been accused in a lawsuit of punching a disabled young man during a jaywalking stop in June 2009. According to the lawsuit, the young was stopped for jaywalking by a Seattle PD officer. The suit claims that when the young man could not produce ID, the officer began punching him. The young man suffered a broken nose and a concussions, the lawsuit claims and was released shortly after his arrest.

A Florida court of appeals has upheld a $65 million verdict in a lawsuit over a 2007 crash that left a young woman seriously injured. The woman was hit by a tractor trailer that ran a red light, suffering such extensive injuries that she cannot care for herself. The company that owns of the tractor trailer that hit the woman, asked for the damages to be reduced, but the appeals court sided with the lower court’s decision.

The lawsuit claims the owners of the learning center were “negligent in the death of the toddler.” Lawyers for the plaintiffs said there were many things the center could have done to avoid the tragedy. A lawsuit has been filed over the death of a Dolton, Ill., teenager who was hit by a car during a police chase last August. The suit claims that Cook County officers were “recklessly” pursuing a suspect through a Dolton neighborhood at dangerously high speeds without proper authorization. KThe boy was riding his bike in the neighborhood when he was hit by the car, which was traveling at around 70 mph. The suit is seeking unspecified damages from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department and the Dolton Police Department

Toy maker Fischer-Price has announced a recall of almost 100,000 Little People Play-n-Go Campsites due to the potential choking risk the toy presents. According to the the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, one of the characters that comes with the toy set can break at the waist, exposing “small parts that could pose a choking hazard to children.” The company has received reports of the figurine breaking, but no injuries have yet been reported.

The city of Atlanta, Georgia has agreed to a $4.9 million settlement with the family of a woman who was killed by police during an illegal raid of her home in 2006. Officers busted down the woman’s door after an informant said he had purchased drugs from her home. The woman fired one shot off before being gunned down by police, who then planted drugs in her home when none were found there, the suit alleged. Since the incident, five former police officers have been imprisoned for conspiring to violate the woman’s rights.
