A Florida jury awarded $1.275 million to a local man who was severely injured in a car accident in 2005. The plaintiff and his wife were driving in North Fort Myers when an Eagle Engineering company truck swerved into their lane, causing an accident, the suit said. The plaintiff and his wife suffered “severe and permanent” injuries.

A woman who allegedly caused a fatal accident on the Bay Bridge in 2008 has agreed to pay $100,000 to settle a lawsuit against her. The woman was driving in the wrong lane on the bridge and another vehicle swerved out of the way, crashing through a barrier and plummeting to the water 30 feet below, killing the driver. Police determined the woman, who was 19, had a blood alcohol content of .03 at the time but charges were not filed.

Lawsuits have been filed against multiple parties over a fatal 2009 bus accident in Mississippi. Two teenagers died in the accident when two of the tires blew out, causing the bus to roll over. The suit claims Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, the bus drivers and the company that manufactured and inspected the bus, were negligent in making the bus safe for its passengers. The suit, filed by a group of passengers involved in the accident, is seeking “compensatory and punitive damages.”

A Florida court of appeals has upheld a $65 million verdict in a lawsuit over a 2007 crash that left a young woman seriously injured. The woman was hit by a tractor trailer that ran a red light, suffering such extensive injuries that she cannot care for herself. The company that owns of the tractor trailer that hit the woman, asked for the damages to be reduced, but the appeals court sided with the lower court’s decision.

A lawsuit has been filed over the death of a Dolton, Ill., teenager who was hit by a car during a police chase last August. The suit claims that Cook County officers were “recklessly” pursuing a suspect through a Dolton neighborhood at dangerously high speeds without proper authorization. KThe boy was riding his bike in the neighborhood when he was hit by the car, which was traveling at around 70 mph. The suit is seeking unspecified damages from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department and the Dolton Police Department

A woman in Florida has filed a lawsuit against Ford Motors over the death of her husband in a fiery car accident. The woman’s husband, a Florida Highway Patrol officer, died in his Ford Crown Victoria cruiser when the rear end burst into flames when it was rear-ended. The suit claims that Ford poorly designed the vehicle and placed the gas tank in an unsafe position to where it may ignite of the car was hit from behind. The seeks unspecified damages.

The death of a woman who was hit by a car on a crosswalk at the Salt Lake City International Airport has prompted a lawsuit from the woman’s husband. The lawsuit claims that airport officials were aware of the “dangerous traffic situation” at the crosswalk but had done nothing to make it safer. The airport had been warned by an employee of the potential for accidents at the crosswalk, the lawsuit states. The suit also names the driver of the car as a defendant.

A lawsuit has been filed against Greyhound in Sacramento, Calif., by six passengers injured in a fatal bus accident last week. The lawsuit claims that the driver “did not not fulfill his duty to transport the passengers safely.” Another passenger, who is not part of the lawsuit, has made statements that he believes the bus driver was speeding just before the accident occurred, which killed six people. The accident is still under investigation, and the speed of the bus has yet to be determined. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

A sports bar in Austell, Ga., has agreed to pay $1 million to the widow of a man killed by a drunk driver who was allegedly over-served by the bar staff. The lawsuit claims that in October 2008, The Sports Grill served alcohol to a man when he was already drunk. The man then crashed his car into another vehicle, killing the car’s owner. The judge also sanctioned the bar after it was discovered that they destroyed video tapes and bar tabs that showed the man drinking.

A jury in California has ordered Caltrans and a northern California woman to pay $12.2 million to a 21-year-old girl who suffered permanent brain damage during a car accident in 2006. The woman hit the girl with her car while the girl was crossing the street at a cross walk at the top of a small rise in the road. The lawyers for the plaintiff argued also that Caltrans was responsible because they had done nothing to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers at that intersection, which has seen three similarly fatal accidents since 1991
