Jogging Stroller Attachment Seats Recalled

More than 1,500 baby jogging stroller attachment seats have been recalled after it was discovered that the seat may not properly lock to the stroller and could come off during use. The recall covers the Baby Jogger Jump Seat, which has been sold in stores since January 2008. Reports show that four children have fallen out of the seats during use, with one baby suffering a broken nose.

Court Spokeswoman Files Suit Against Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department

A former Los Angeles County Superior Court spokeswoman has filed a lawsuit against the Sheriff’s Department, claiming she was physically harassed by a courthouse deputy even though she had the proper credentials. The suit claims the woman was “grabbed by a courthouse deputy and pushed hard against a wall.” She said she sought medical attention for her injuries and is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit.

1,200 Disney Children’s Watches Recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 1,200 children’s light-up watches sold at U.S. Disney resorts. Disney said the watches “can cause skin irritation and/or burning sensations to children who are allergic to nickel.” There have been six reports of children suffering from these symptoms while wearing the watch.

500,000 Bassinets Recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 500,000 bassinets due to the chance the product can collapse. The bassinets, produced by Burlington Basket Company, can collapse “if not properly locked into position.” The company has received 10 reports of the bassinets collapsing, including two reports of minor injuries.

Medical Malpractice Suit Filed in California

A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed against Catholic Healthcare West, Methodist Hospital in south Sacramento and various emergency room workers for delayed treatment of a young child. The suit, filed by the girl’s parents, claims they waited five hours in the emergency room with their daughter, who was infected with Streptococcus A. When medical care finally came, the suit says, the toddler had to have parts of all four of her limbs amputated. The suit is seeking unspecified damages.

Suit: Child Burned by Nacho Cheese at Disney World

A California couple has filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney after their 4-year-old child suffered burns on his face from nacho cheese while at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The lawsuit claims that the nacho cheese, which accidentally splashed onto the boy’s face, should not have been served at a temperature that causes “immediate burns on contact.” The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.

QVC Recalls Candle Holders Due to Fire Risk

QVC has issued a recall of 14,000 spinning candle holders due to a fire risk. The holders, which contain 12 soy tea lights, can catch fire and pose a burn risk to consumers, the company said. There have been 19 reports of the products igniting, including two minor burns and one puncture wound.

6,500 Bicycle Handlebar Stems Recalled

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 6,500 bicycle handlebar stems that can crack or break. The product’s manufacturer, Salsa Cycles, said the stems were sold at bicycle retailers and websites from April 2010 through October 2010. There has been one report of the handlebar stem breaking, resulting in minor injuries.

Candle Holders Recalled from Michaels

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of more than 7,600 Silver Tree Tealight Candle Holders from the U.S. and Canada. The holders were sold at Michaels stores and the company said the holder is designed so that the candle flame may pose a fire risk to other parts of the product. The company has received one report of a consumer suffering burns from the product.

$66 Million Awarded to Woman Crippled by Machine

A New York jury has awarded a Buffalo woman $66 million for injuries she suffered on a Cybex weight machine. The plaintiff, a former physical therapist, had her vertebra crushed when the 500-pound machine fell on her in 2004, rendering her a quadriplegic. “The verdict in New York state Supreme Court was one of the largest personal injury awards ever in Erie County,” the Boston Herald reports.
