A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit filed by the family of a former University of Kansas athletic director who died in a bicycle accident in 2009. The accident occurred when the bike hit a hole in the concrete on Lawrence Street in Lawrence, Kan. The undisclosed settlement was reached with a local concrete company, who allegedly was “negligent during repair work on pavement” where the accident occurred.

The Austin City Council has agreed to a $750,000 settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit filed over a fatal police shooting in 2009. Nathaniel Sanders, 18, was shot and killed by a police officer during a struggle in the early morning in an East Austin apartment parking lot. The incident prompted concerns over Austin police officers’ use of force against minorities, and the officer responsible for the shooting was later fired.

The city of San Diego has agreed to a $500,000 settlement in a lawsuit filed over an off-duty police shooting of a young boy in 2008. The boy was shot once in the leg during a “road rage” altercation between his mother, who had been driving drunk, and an off-duty officer. The lawsuit was filed by the boy’s father, who was stationed in Iraq at the time of the incident.

Medical device manufacturer Miltex Inc. will pay $4.6 million to a California family for its involvement in a botched circumcision in 2003. The lawsuit claimed the clamp made by Miltex used in the procedure was defective and caused the accident. The procedure on the week-old baby was preformed at a Los Angeles clinic by a doctor without malpractice insurance.

The city of San Diego has agreed to a $1.8 million settlement with a local family over the death of a motorcyclist in April 2009. The lawsuit claimed the city could have prevented the accident by installing a traffic signal at the intersection where the incident occurred. Records show that a dozen accidents occurred at that intersection between 2006 and 2009.

Proctor & Gamble has agreed to a more-than $3 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed over the company’s Pampers Dry Max diapers. The lawsuit contended the product “caused diaper rash and other skin problems” in infants and young children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reviewed the customer complaints and company data and “found no link between the new Pampers and diaper rash,” the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

The Denver City Council has approved a $117,500 settlement in a lawsuit filed by a man who was allegedly beaten by police officers in 2008. The plaintiff alleged in his suit that he was beaten by either a flashlight or club by two local police officers. The settlement was approved 8-3 by the council.
