Enforcement of Pool Safety Law Lagging
A law that aimed to prevent children and other swimmers from becoming trapped in pool drains has gone largely unenforced, the Arizona Republic reports. According to the newspaper, officials in Arizona and across the nation have been slow to force public pools to comply with the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. A Consumer Product Safety Commission official said the agency has only about 100 field representatives to inspect about 900,000 public pools nationwide.
