The U.S. government has agreed to pay $1.2 million to settle claims by five immigrants who were detained for months after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the New York Times reports. According to the lawsuit, the Muslim immigrants were rounded up and abused by guards at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. A larger suit alleging illegal detention and abuse is still pending.
