Lawsuit Accuses Firm of Human Trafficking
A group of Indian oil rig workers have filed a civil rights lawsuit against Mississippi-based Signal International. According to the lawsuit, the workers were promised their visas would soon be transferred to green cards. However, the lawsuit claims the workers were subjected to a harsh and discriminatory labor environment as well as human trafficking. When the workers began to protest, some were immediately fired and others were stuffed in a van and taken to the airport in an attempt to force them back to India, the New York Times reported.
