Lawsuit: Laptop Caused Fire, Injuries
A Massachusetts man has filed a lawsuit against Hewlett-Packard after his HP laptop allegedly overheated, causing a fire that destroyed his home and left his seriously injured. The lawsuit claims the Hewlett-Packard was negligent by distributing laptops that were defective or unfit for consumer use and should have warned consumers of the risks. Hewlett-Packard has issued product recalls four times since 2005 for their lithium-ion batteries that have been known to overheat, the Boston Globe reports. The lawsuit is seeking more than $225,000 in damages.
