Lingering Tear Gas Caused Death, Lawsuit Claims
The trial has started in a lawsuit that claims a 42-year-old woman died after being exposed to tear gas. Police in Jackson, Miss. stormed the home of Linda White, with her permission, in April 2006, using tear gas and pepper spray to arrest two individuals. When White returned home later that evening, she became ill allegedly from the lingering effects of the tear gas. The lawsuit named both the city of Jackson and the tear gas manufacturer as defendants. The Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported that a settlement was reached with the city last week, and that a judge will decide the outcome of the lawsuit against the manufacturer.
