Multiple Surgical Errors Prompt Fine
Rhode Island health officials have ordered the state’s largest hospital to pay $150,000 and install video monitoring equipment in every operating room following the fifth wrong-site surgery incident since 2007, the Providence Journal reports. The Rhode Island Health Department determined that Rhode Island Hospital had shown an unacceptable pattern of surgical errors, according to one official. In the most recent incident, doctors performed a procedure on the wrong finger of a patient.
