Officials from the prison firm Wackenhut Corrections Corp. and Willacy County, Texas jail warden David Forrest reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount with the family of a man who was beaten to death in 2001 while in a Texas prison. The lawsuit claims that Gregorio de la Rosa Jr. was beaten to death by inmates while prison officials watched and then later tried to destroy evidence the beating occurred. The settlement comes on the tail of a judgment by the 13th Court of Appeals totaling around $40 million
