Soldier Who Inspired Chemical Hazard Bill Dies
An Indiana National Guardsman who was part of a federal lawsuit accusing KBR and other companies of exposing soldiers to carcinogens in Iraq has died of lung cancer, the Indianapolis Star reports. Specifically, the lawsuit claims that soldiers were knowingly exposed to sodium dichromate and hexavalent chromium. Lt. Col. James C. Gentry’s story inspired lawmakers to write the proposed Health Care for Veterans Exposed to Chemical Hazards Act of 2009, according to the newspaper.
