A Missouri jury last week awarded $89 million in a case stemming from a fatal drunken driving crash, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The award includes $53.5 million to the fiancé of the decedent, Dennis Riegel Jr., and $35.5 million to Riegel’s daughter and parents. An attorney for the plaintiffs said the size of the award sends an unmistakable message that the jury was disgusted by the defendant’s conduct.
